The Environment

Woodhams is committed to caring for the environment and minimising the impact our construction and engineering projects have on the local and wider area.

Many of our projects are about helping our clients reduce waste and become more efficient in the utilities, water and transport industries. It wouldn’t make sense, therefore, if an environmentally friendly approach to construction and engineering wasn’t a key part of our agenda.

The Woodhams Environmental Policy is designed to reduce our carbon footprint and continually improve our environmental performance through waste minimisation, energy efficiency and eco-friendly processes.

To demonstrate our committment, and to compliment our ISO 9001 and OHSAS 18001, Woodhams is ISO 14001 Environmental certified.

Our commitment is to:

  • Ensure that all Woodhams operations adhere to relevant environmental standards specified by law, government guidance and industry codes of practice.
  • Take all reasonable precautions against damaging or disrupting the environment, including the site itself, adjoining properties, surrounding land, watercourses and local ecosystems.
  • Minimise waste through reducing the amount of excess material purchased.
  • Minimise waste through recycling.
  • Endeavour to conserve energy and water.
  • Endeavour to use goods and services that are sustainable and have minimal environmental impact.
  • Endeavour to use renewable sources of energy and limit use of non-renewables.
  • Endeavour to use eco-friendly modes of transport and keep unnecessary travel to a minimum.
  • Ensure than all employees understand the impact our business can have on the environment.
  • Ensure that all employees understand what they are expected to do to minimise the impact of our activities on the environment.
  • Keep all staff informed about environmental issues.
  • Make subcontractors, suppliers and any other relevant parties aware of this policy and motivated to meeting its aims.

Green Transport

The way the world fuels its vehicles is changing, and so are we. Our engineers and support staff travel all over the country, which is why we installed our first electric car charging point at our Head Office in Fleet, Hampshire in 2018. We’re committed to phasing out older vehicles in our fleet over the next 5 years and replacing them with more fuel efficient, hybrid and pure electric models.

Recycling

We are committed to recycling our waste, so much so, that each office at our HQ in Hampshire has separate bins for general waste and recycling. We have invested in weekly recycling collections and since doing so, we have reduced our general waste output by over 60%. All our unused metal during the fabrication process is either stocked for future use, or sent away to be recycled.
